Rainbow Days Training

Rainbow Days Training equips individuals, organizations, schools and communities with the skills and tools they need to create positive change for the children, youth and families they serve. By training others in Rainbow Days’ own Curriculum-Based Support Group (CBSG®) Program, which teaches important SEL skills to children and youth, and by providing other innovative, practical learning opportunities through workshops, Rainbow Days Training supports youth-serving professionals to achieve significant results in their own communities across the nation and the globe. Rainbow Days Training includes two key services:

Curriculum-Based Support Group (CBSG® ) Program Training – Developed in 1982, Rainbow Days’ evidence-based Curriculum-Based Support Group (CBSG®) Program is based on Resilience & Protective Factor Research and Social Emotional Learning (SEL) principles and is an effective antidote designed to increase resilience in children and youth who experience adversity, trauma and toxic stress through the development of healthy social, emotional and coping skills in a caring support group setting. The CBSG® Program has undergone numerous independent evaluation studies over the decades evaluating its effectiveness with children and youth in a variety of settings, representing a diverse set of cultural backgrounds, social-economic status and geographic locations. This research has proven that the CBSG® Program is an evidence-based preventive intervention proven effective with Selective and Indicated populations and has been recognized by the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP), the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the National Registry of Evidence Based Programs and Practices (NREPP).

Rainbow Days Training provides training specifically in how to facilitate a support group using Rainbow Days’ evidence based CBSG® Program curricula, which has four adaptations:

  • Kids’ Connection, for children ages 4-12, designed for use in schools and other community based settings
  • Youth Connection, for youth ages 10-17, designed for use in schools and other community based settings
  • Kids’ Connection, Too, for children, ages 4-12, designed for children living in transient situations
  • Faith Connection, for children ages 4-12, designed for children in faith-based settings

Rainbow Days’ CBSG® Program Training includes a seven-hour interactive training led by credentialed and experienced trainers and one copy of your own curricula from the list above, which includes electronic files of all activities and peer support group practice. Each participant will also receive a certificate for seven hours of Continuing Education (CEHs) and will be provided with ongoing technical assistance after the training.

Rainbow Days has trained over 22,000 adults in 43 states and three countries in how to implement the CBSG® Program with children and youth in their community. These individuals include school counselors, teachers, nonprofit staff, prevention specialists, substance use disorder counselors, juvenile justice staff, social workers, licensed professional counselors, community volunteers and a host of others. Together, these training individuals have positively impacted the lives of over one million children and youth in their local communities!

Testimony – Here is what others have to say about the CBSG® Program:

“The design of the CBSG® Program allows facilitators the opportunity to have open conversations with youth using the guided discussion section provided by the curriculum. What stands out the most is the Sunshine/Cloud activity because participants get a chance to share things they might never have a chance to talk to someone about. It sets the tone for the groups that this a safe place with caring individuals that want to help you learn how to cope with difficult situations in your life and that it’s OK to just be a kid!” – Tracy Aguilar, Director of Prevention, Mid-Coast Family Services
