Support Kids in Need

Throughout the year, Rainbow Days serves nearly 9,000 at-risk and homeless children and youth through a variety of services, including the distribution of critical items like food, school supplies, clothing and other tangible goods. Rainbow Days accepts donations of new items as requested at different times of the year.

In addition to monetary donations, which allow us flexibility to meet needs, below are the ways you can help throughout the year:

Kids' University (June)

Help homeless youth better understand the importance of graduating through an enriching educational environment on a college campus!

Needs:

  • lunch for up to 300 campers for eight days
  • individually packaged snacks for up to 200 campers for eight days (e.g. juice boxes, fruit cups, granola bars)
  • toys from $1 to $5 to be purchased with “KU Cash” at the camp store
  • Camp Pizza Party for 250 guests at graduation
  • t-shirt printing and design for camp shirts

Camp Bravo! (July)

Youth attend performing arts camp to gain an appreciation for the arts and build confidence through their creativity.

Needs:

  • lunch for 180 campers for eight days
  • individually packaged snacks for 180 campers for eight days (e.g. juice boxes, fruit cups, granola bars)
  • small prizes for incentives throughout the week
  • Camp Pizza Party for 250 guests at final performance
  • t-shirt printing and design for camp shirts

Outdoor Adventure Camp (August)

The traditional camp experience is priceless! Send a kid to camp prepared for the great outdoors.

Needs:

  • Camp Kits – small draw-string tote bag, portable water bottle, visor or baseball cap, sunglasses, lip balm, sunscreen, mosquito repellent, spritzer bottle or mini fans with batteries or solar operated
  • Hygiene Kits (all items should fit within a gallon Ziploc bag) – Deodorant, toothbrush and toothpaste, toothbrush cover, body wash, shampoo/conditioner, lotion, mints, notepad, pen, age-appropriate paperback books for 4-15 year olds (razors prohibited)
  • Flip-flops
  • Beach towels
  • Swimsuits and swim trunks (shorts for boys, one-piece only for girls; sizes to fit children ages 4-15)

Back-to-School Celebration (August)

Provide children with tools to succeed in school this year!

Needs:

  • school supplies and backpacks for 700 children from area shelters
  • snacks, sno-cone machine and/or popcorn machine rental, cookies
  • carnival-like games and small prizes
  • bounce house rentals

Saturday with Santa (December)

Bring joy during the holiday season!

Needs:

  • Christmas stockings for children and parents from area shelters
  • Snacks, sno-cone machine and/or popcorn machine rental, cookies
  • Carnival-like games and small prizes
  • Bounce house rentals

Easter Eggstravaganza (March)

Provide families with a healthy bonding experience during Easter season!

Needs:

  • Easter baskets for several hundred children and parents from area shelters
  • snacks, sno-cone machine and/or popcorn machine rental, cookies
  • carnival-like games and small prizes
  • bounce house rentals

Learning Tool Kit (Year-round)

Needs:

  • children’s scissors
  • construction paper
  • crayons
  • glue sticks
  • markers
  • pencils
  • plastic baggies
  • financial/in-kind resources to have printed materials professionally printed for these portable educational tool kits.
